Celestron Cometron 7×50 binoculars – astronomy requirements

Optics quality

It shows no surprise that such cheap products like Celestron Cometron would include a BK7 prism type (usually more expensive ones would have BK4 glass). However, the fact that Celestron Cometron 7×50 prism coat is multicoated is amazing. It presents a clear view, reducing quite a lot of glare and reflection. Brightness is also an advantage of this Celestron Cometron. The multi coated prism delivers a high quantity of brightness and ensures a high quality of light.

Collimation seems not to be a problem with this Celestron Cometron 7×50. It takes just a quick effort to have correct focus with no miscollimation. Furthermore, the binoculars view goes very close to the edge, showing a large area of the binoculars view.

Last but not least, porro prism allows these 7×50 binoculars to have high quality of contrast. Those kinds of good things remain nearly the same in dark knight thanks to the large exit pupil.

However, we also want to mention that in too low-performance darkness (meaning the sky is so dark or affected by unexpected factors), the optics quality may not reach its maximum performance.

Objects observable

For such affordable binoculars like this Cometron of Celestron binoculars, it is expected to complete the most basic requirement – observing the galaxies. And it does the work quite well with a bright clear view.

Moreover, it is also pleased to watch comet and Moon craters with this 7×50 binoculars. Especially, the experience of observing the tail of a comet is quite satisfying.

For other stargazing, this Celestron binoculars is wonderful when you watch open cluster.

Tripod adaptable

Usually other astronomy binoculars would need a tripod because of its heaviness. However, for this Cometron, that is not the problem. As for this Celestron Cometron binoculars, the image stability is not so decent, that’s why we highly recommend a tripod for better experience.

Anyway, tripod is adaptable for this Celestron 7×50, we have no problem with setting up the tripod, using it or hearing any other complaints about the tripod. Apparently, it is not the best tripod (of course), but the performance is more than OK.

Magnification

It is not the most efficient magnification level for astronomy, but if you’re looking for binoculars for astronomy beginners, the performance is there to enjoy.

Celestron Cometron 7×50 binoculars – other requirements

Construction

It is completely obvious that the size is too portable. In fact, this could be suitable for kids as well. As for 7×50 binoculars for astronomy, this Celestron 7×50 is quite lightweight. In comparison with the Nikon Aculon 7×50 A211 (31.9 oz), the Celestron Cometron binoculars are lighter. Nikon is always considered a standard for cheap compact binoculars. Therefore, being more lightweight than the Nikon Aculon implies that this Celestron binoculars 7×50 is among the lightest in 7×50 binoculars for astronomy.

As stated by Celestron, this Cometron is water resistant only, not fully waterproof. This should be carefully noted down before use. One surprising feature is that they use aluminium for the chassis of this binoculars 7×50, which is considered to be quite expensive material. The rubberized cover of this Celestron Cometron 7×50 binoculars is quite standard, nothing to complain about, though not the best rubber-armored you could find.  The durable and comfortable grip should be fine.

Binoculars eye relief

The eye relief of this Celestron Cometron 7×50 binoculars is 13 mm, which is actually not a decent figure. Therefore, eyeglasses wearers need to take serious consideration before deciding to buy this or not.

Focus

The focus knob of this Celestron is smooth enough to comfortably switch around. As our experience, the image focused is sharp enough to give you absolute no complaints.

Field of view

As for 7x binoculars, the Celestron 7×50 Cometron binoculars have a decent field of view. This shall bring more than fine experience for both astronomy and terrestrial use.

However, the disadvantage is the close focus distance of Celestron 7×50 Cometron binocular would annoy you if you tend to watch insects. To our experience: 3.0/5 should be the appropriate rating.
  • Hunting: Just like birdwatching, the field of view and optics quality of Celestron 7×50 Cometron binocular would bring you pleasure. Moreover, one benefit from versatile astronomy binoculars like this Cometron is the porro prism.
